Having made his return with his ‘Solo‘ mini-album, SS501‘s Heo Young Saeng recently sat down with Ilgan Sports for an interview discussing his latest activities and plans in terms of SS501′s future.

Q. “Why did you choose your album’s title as ‘Solo’?”
“There are various meanings to it. The lyrics to the title track are about what happened to a man after a break up, and I felt that fit with my situation as I tried to stand on my own, away from SS501. I participated in the production of the album and spent a lot of time on it. It’s an album that I truly worked hard on, on my own.”
Q. “What is your title track ‘Crying‘ like?”
“I loved it the moment I first received it. The ladies especially had a good reaction to it. I think I love the song more because I penned the lyrics myself. It reminds me of my own story of when I broke up three years ago. I went through a lot of heartache then, and every song I listened to at the time felt like my own story. The song reminded me of when I felt so miserable about not being able to hold her back.”
Q. “It took you a year to release your second album since your first solo debut album.”
“I didn’t think it’d take this long either. I was pressured with the second album thinking that I had to make it better than the first. I wanted to show improvement most of all. From the album’s beginning, I participated in collecting the songs and producing it. It was difficult to the point where I almost suffered from depression, but I was able to overcome it.”
Q. “During that time, you also worked in a musical and sitcom.”
“I starred in the musical ‘The Three Musketeers‘. I was worried at first and was determined to clear my heart and learn from the beginning. The more I did it, the more I wanted to improve and get better. The last performance made me feel empty, so much so that I cried. On KBS 2TV‘s ‘I Need a Fairy‘, I play the role of a Hallyu star. Although I’m still lacking, I feel that there’s a lot of charm to acting.”
Q. “Are you dating?”
“When I like someone, I’m not able to focus on anything else. I know that so I try not to let myself fall into that trap. For now, work comes first. I believe in the saying that a man’s skills should come first because you’re always able to find someone nice to settle down with after you’ve found success.”
Q. “Is there any competition between the SS501 members?”
“There is friendly competition. Since Hyun Joong made a position for himself first and got a lot of public recognition, people think that we’d be jealous of him, but it’s not true. Recently, all of the members had a lot of free time so we met one another often. We’d grab a drink and discuss the future of SS501. Of course, Hyun Joong is the one who foots the bills.”
Q. “Will SS501 get back together?”
“We were stimulated by Shinhwa reuniting. I was watching them guest on a talk show after their comeback and suddenly received texts from all of the SS501 members asking, ‘Are you watching this?’ It made me realize that we were truly one. I think we’ve lost a chance to reunite once because it was so hard to balance our time schedules. I think the next perfect time would be when we all get discharged from the army.”

The following is a partial interview of the producer of Kim Hyun Joong’s new drama “Taking over the city:”
Producer Baek Jin-dong says: ”I’m certain that Kim Hyun Joong is definitely most popular in Japan and other Asian countries. In this project, you are sadly mistaken to think of Kim Hyun Joong’s peformance as what you’ve seen in the past. I’m confident that Kim Hyun Joong as Baek Mee-lu in the drama “Taking Over the City” will score full marks."
Reporter: I heard that the presale of “Taking Over the City” is already close to 11 billion Won. With my congrats, if you’d like to say a few words in regards to that?
Producer Baek Jin-dong: “I’m just amazed as well. Hyun Joong in the Asian markets is limitless, much more than I thought. “Taking over the city” has earned a minimum guarantee of $4 million with a separate optional contract from Japan alone. We’re exchanging contracts with China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong at the moment. I anticipate that the overseas sales of “Taking over the City” would probably reach 15 billion Won.”

After selling the rights to a drama that hasn’t even gone into production, Kim Hyun Joong is finally set to start filming “City Conquest.”
A spokesperson for the drama said Friday the first location for shooting will be in Japan, starting on July 10 and continuing about two weeks.
“The filming will take place in Nikko and Edo Wonderland in Utsunomiya. Tochigi Prefecture has kindly promised to offer its full support, no doubt as the program is one that is gathering much attention overseas,” said the spokesperson.
Nikko is a city known for its historical attractions, with many shrines and temples designated as World Heritage Sites.
Other stars to take part in the drama are Nam Gung-min, Kim Seung-woo and Jung Yu-mi.
Earlier, Kim and his upcoming TV show made headlines when it was announced that four locales in Asia had signed contracts to purchase rights to the drama. By signing with Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan ahead of time, Kim made 11.8 billion won (about $10 million).

Mnet’s 20’s Choice Awards will be meeting its sixth show this year on June 28 at The Oasis.
The ceremony fanfares its arrival with the slogan that it’s Korea’s only summer awards ceremony for those in their 20s, and makes issues every year for its hot and shocking performances.
As such, enews picked out some of the best and hottest performances in the history of the show.
Barefoot Hyuna and sexy Kim Hyun Joong
The scenes that first come to mind when people think of the 20’s Choice Awards are probably from these performances that took place last year at the Walkerhill Riverpark.
Two stars shone brighter in the sudden rain: 4minute’s Hyuna and Kim Hyun Joong.
Hyuna performed her solo single Bubble Pop for the first time ever at the ceremony.
She started dancing in kill heels, but because the rain had made the stage too slippery to dance on, she simply threw off her heels and danced barefoot onstage.
Her barefoot performance actually added to her sexiness and drew bigger cheers from her audience, and perhaps thanks to this performance, Hyuna’s solo ventures garnered a giant success.
Kim Hyun Joong also shone this day for using the rain to his benefit.
In the middle of his performance of Breakdown, he suddenly threw off his shirt to show off his six pack.
The water-kicking performance that followed was enough to awe his audience and viewers.
Uhm Jung Hwa and Lee Hyori’s sexy collaboration
One of the biggest attractions at the 20’s Choice Awards is the collaborative performances between top singers. In 2008, Uhm Jung Hwa and Lee Hyori helped make the 20’s Choice Awards more popular by performing together in the ceremony’s second year.
Uhm Jung Hwa and Lee Hyori sang each other’s hits D.I.S.C.O. and U-Go-Girl, and followed up the performance by singing Uhm Jung Hwa’s DJ together onstage.
Other collaborations included Jun Jin and Wonder Girls, Kim Gun Mo and Girls’ Generation (SNSD) and Big Bang and No Brain.
DJ DOC and UV flaunt their free spirits
The 20’s Choice Awards isn’t all about splendid performances.
Some performances break through formalities and just have everyone enjoy the fact that they’re there. DJ DOC, who made an appearance to give out an award at the 2nd 20’s Choice Awards, had the crowd laughing when it pretended it couldn’t get into the ceremony.
In 2011, Yoo Se Yoon and Muzi won an award as UV and said, “We don’t know why you’re so crazy about our music, but the important thing is that you do go crazy.”
The two then covered themselves with blood and performed with zombie backup dancers, trying to get the audience to join in a giant performance that everyone could enjoy.
Yoo Se Yoon is especially said to be the embodiment of the 20’s Choice Awards. Last year, he won the Hot Variety Star Award, and said, “This is my third award, and I think it’s time I got tired of this.”
His words were surprising, but they definitely broke through regular ceremony formalities and showed what the 20’s Choice Awards was all about.

Jaksal Chicken
Kim Hyun Joong whose popularity explodes in Asia, in order to keep his promise, upon earning 1 hundred million won, opened “Jaksal Chicken” with 3 of his childhood friends.
One of his best buddy Choi Minsu disclosed, Kim Hyun Joong likes to eat fried chicken, so the 4 of them made a promise, whoever succeed first will open a fried chicken shop. Debut from idol group SS501, popularity is inexorable after acting in 「Boys Over Flowers」 in 2009, Kim Hyun Joong finally became the first to realize the promise.
According to Kim Hyun Joong, initially when the fried chicken business started, as it received much attention from fans and netizens, they received a lot of prank calls, “Kim Hyun Joong” this name eventually did not aid in making profits, and even got scolded by his partners.
Although Kim Hyun Joong only drop by to “supervise” the business occasionally before the shop closes, but the other 3 friends personally oversee planning of menu, choosing ingredients to serving customers, not just ‘boss-in-name’. Besides, different from other stars who loved to open their shops in high-class districts like Gangnam, Apgujeong, Shinsadong etc, Kim Hyun Joong’s fried chicken shop is located at outskirt of eastern part of Seoul at Seokchon-dong. The renovation in the shop is normal, if you can’t read the Korean words on the signboard, can identify the shop by the big headshot of Kim Hyun Joong on the signboard.
Other than original flavor fried chicken, they also came up with spicy flavor and peanut sauce fried chicken. Basically, the fried chicken is crispy on the outside and tender inside, most important of all it doesn’t have the foul oil taste like the oil has been recycled for many times, as for the new flavors it just have to depend on individual likings.
Recommendation: Jaksal original flavor fried chicken, peanut sauce fried chicken
