CableTV Y-STAR conducted a survey asking 1,000 Seoul residents about who they felt was the ultimate idol star and why. The results? Big Bang’s G-Dragon was picked as the ultimate triple-threat, thanks to his songwriting, composing, and rapping skills.
A close second was 2PM’s Nichkhun, who was chosen for his cute image and was voted hands-down the ultimate foreign idol star.

Super Junior recently released a mobile app co-created by SM Entertainment and online music service Soribada!
The ‘lite’ version of the app is available for free, but fans who want the full version will have to pay $7.99 USD. In the free version, you can enjoy one-minute previews of every track on the album, as well as viewing teaser videos and photo galleries. The full version includes entire songs, their music video, making-of videos, an image gallery and Facebook capabilities.
The app is being offered in conjunction with the group’s ‘version B’ of “Mr. Simple”, which includes the track ‘Superman.’ The music video and galleries will be updated soon as additional features on the app as well.
A representative of Soribada said, “Super Junior stands at the center of the Hallyu wave and you can now interact with their music through your smartphones. Fans are very excited because you not only get the music, but videos and photos of the group as well”

Kim Hyun Joong has been promoting in Asia for the entire August from Japan to Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines 7 countries straight meeting his fans from overseas. Boys Over Flowers star Kim Hyun Joong was in the country to promote his album, Break Down, and during his stay, he made a Pinay fan's wish come true. On August 26, at the press conference for The Face Shop, a popular Korean beauty brand he endorses, he met 74-year-old Patria Ragasa. She is such a big fan of Hyun Joong's that she and her daughter, Maria Rosario Ragasa, have been following his travels around Asia in an effort to have their photo taken with him.

Maria Rosario even wrote an open letter to the star, which has been circulating online in the past few months, in which she expressed her mother's desire to meet him up close and personal. In it, she also related how much she wanted to make things happen for her mom, who took care of Maria when she had a stroke.

Patria, who celebrated her 74th birthday on the day of the Face Shop event, finally saw her dream come to fruition when event host Grace Lee announced her daughter the winner of The Face Shop's charity auction held from August 18 to 21. Maria placed the winning bid of P100,000 for Kim Hyun Joong's autographed sports shorts and successfully got her mom a chance to have her photo taken with her idol.

Hyun Joong immediately approached the mother-and-daughter tandem after the announcement and shook hands with them. Both Maria and Patria couldn't help crying, especially after the Korean star gave them hugs. Patria was also able to present Hyun Joong with a scrapbook she made for him, and he thanked her with an embrace and a big smile.

Maria's winning bid went to the Abiertas House of Friendship, the beneficiary for The Face Shop's auction.

After having led boy-group SS501 for five years, Kim Hyun Joong proves his mettle as a top Hallyu star with a winning album, writes TAN CHOE CHOE

IT was a high-five meet with 500 lucky fans, but over 1,200 turned up at the grand ballroom of the Gardens Hotel in Kuala Lumpur last week, even if just to scream their hearts out and catch a glimpse of the very blonde, very gorgeous Kim Hyun Joong.

It was the first time Kim was meeting fans here as a solo artiste after his SS501 days and before his arrival, fans were already frantic with excitement, practising fan-chants about him being their “one and only”.

When Kim finally came on stage, the diligently-practised lines being shouted from all corners of the room filled the air, instantly drawing a shy, happy smile from him.

There was no hesitation from him when he declared in fluent Malay — “Saya cinta Malaysia” — to repay the passionate welcome.

In a white shirt, light brown vest, grey pants and a loosely fitted light grey tie, Kim was the picture of a suave gentleman as he bestowed a dazzling smile on each fan who came on stage. So electrifying was his steady gaze and warm demeanour that some couldn’t help but try to embrace him, but were stopped by his bodyguard. One fan even tried to “claim” Kim by sliding a ring onto his ring finger. Without missing a beat and still smiling, Kim smoothly slid it off and passed it to a nearby staff.

Others went sniffing their hands after shaking his, hoping to catch a whiff of what he smelled like. Many also took the opportunity to pass him little gifts and letters in what probably would go on record as the shortest 15-minute hand-shake event with 500 fans.

The day before, Kim, who was in the midst of a cross-Asia promotional tour for his solo debut mini-album Break Down, had flown in on a morning flight from Singapore. Malaysia was his fifth stop after Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan and Singapore.

In a brief press conference later, despite being visibly exhausted, Kim still accorded each question a gravity of respect that was unexpected for a young man of 25 years. Facing about 130 media representatives, he waved and smiled charmingly, eyes focussed and observant as he scanned the room as flashbulbs went off incessantly.

Little surprise then that he had similarly impressed Taiwanese media during his brief but highly successful visit last week, earning him the title of Best Korean Star With The Best Looks And Best Manners.

“Every time I went on stage (as part of a group), I always felt nervous, but with my own album now, there’s a feeling of being fully prepared and ready for the stage. So I’m not so nervous anymore.”

As for the good reception for his solo debut album, which topped the album sales charts in five countries across Asia, Kim said: “I never thought Asian fans would love the album so much. I am now working on my second album, for release in October. I hope all my fans and the media will look forward to it.

From December, I’ll start my Asia Tour and I heard that one of the stops will be Malaysia too.”

He felt each song in his mini album was unique and in various genres so he hoped Malaysian fans would like them too, though he expressed preference for the title track Break Down, a track which boasts of a sexy hip-gyrating dance that has been attracting dance covers in Taiwan and the Philippines since he performed it live during his comeback in South Korea.

On the third day of his visit, Kim caused quite a commotion when he visited two TheFaceShop outlets as the cosmetics brand’s ambassador, first in the Pavilion and then at Berjaya Times Square, both in Kuala Lumpur. Thousands flocked to see him and he managed to raise RM11,000 for an environmental cause from an auction of just a cardboard standee and a pair of used knee protectors.

There was also an autograph signing ceremony for 100 lucky shoppers. One Korean fan who had followed him here and whom Kim recognised, even got a special message from him that reads: “Thanks for always looking at me from afar. I will pray for you that you will always be happy — Hyun Joong.”

Kim also enjoys tremendous popularity in Japan, where he has been called an artiste in the “healing category”. On Twitter, one Japanese fan wrote: “There are many problems in Japan now, aftershocks, radioactive contamination... but seeing his carefree and tender smile, we can smile and be happy naturally. He is an angel who carries happiness, that’s why Japanese fans say he makes us heal and happy.”

Clearly, there is a reason why wherever Kim goes, legions of fans follow.

On August 27th, SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong successfully concluded his one month promotional tour across Asia and returned to Korea.

Starting with Japan last month, the star toured seven different countries across Asia, which resulted in blocked-up airports at every entrance. His popularity was definitely confirmed with each visit, as he reportedly ran out of staff to effectively control the crowd for every high-five event. Kim Hyun Joong has also been receiving love calls from record labels around the globe.

Kim Hyun Joong revealed that he’ll be starting an Asia tour concert starting this December. “It was an enjoyable time that allowed me to meet my fans overseas, who are always supporting me and giving me so much love. MANILA, Philippines — The charisma of Korean pop star Kim Hyun Joong among his Filipino fans was best exemplified by the presence of die-hards whose ages range from five to almost 75.

During the presscon held Thursday afternoon at the Mindoro Room of Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, the visiting international celebrity was greeted by a horde of reporters and fans who generally kept their cameras clicking while he answered queries from local media.

“Thank you for all the love you’re having toward me,” he told the audience.

One 74-year-old fan spoke to the occasion’s host and professed her admiration for the Korean actor-singer, even cracking a half-meant joke, “Lahat ng albums niya binili ko. Brief na lang niya ang di ko pa binibili!” she exclaimed.

Best known for being the leader of the K-pop boyband SS501 and playing “Ji Hoo” in the hit drama series “Boys Over Flowers,” Kim dropped by Manila to promote his debut solo album “Break Down” and attend the “High Five Touch” event at Trinoma, also last Thursday. His album is released by Polyeast Records.

He continued, “I was involved in all the processes of the album, from the lyrics to the jacket.”

The multi-talented matinee idol reiterated his focus on things he is good at. Singing and acting are of equal footing to him.

“If I’m on stage, my energy is burning every time I get in contact with the fans,” he pointed out.

When asked of his dream role as actor, he noted via the interpreter, “I want to play a character with full of charisma.”

The irony is, he need not role-play that since he himself is a very charismatic man on and off camera.

* Hyun Joong was asked how was the trip. He replied that he was amazed at the fans who were gathered to meet him at the airport.

* What are the three things which make him happy. He replied, that all the things that he loves to do are involved in what he is currently doing which are singing and acting.

* There is a question , who are his musical influences. He said that there are a lot of Korean musicians who helped him get to where he is today but if he has to choose it would be Seo Taiji, the legend.

* He was asked, what he loves most about performing. He said that if he is on the state and energy is starting to burn up and he feels tired, but when he makes contact to fans it re-charges him. The most important is the love from fans.

* Between acting and singing he was asked which he prefers. He said that he would choose both as both are his profession.

* Someone asked if he write songs and Hyun Joong said that he tries to compose.

* There is a question about appearing in a drama or movie. He said that after the Asian concert tour next year he will be doing a drama then probably a movie too.

Popular South Korean Pop Star, Kim Hyun Joong visits Manila, Philippines bringing happiness to his Filipino fans. Kim Hyun Joong is the leader of popular boy group, SS501. He is a prominent style icon and has been popular internationally. He has gained popularity with his role as “Ji Hoo” in the popular 2009 drama, “Boys Over Flowers”. He then became even more popular with his role as “Baek Seung Jo” in the drama, “Playful Kiss”. Both dramas have been aired on Philippine TV giving him local exposure that made him acquire the love and support of hundreds of Filipino fans.

Kim Hyun Joong has released his debut album, “Break Down” in different countries like South Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Philippines. “Break Down” consists of six awesome songs and one instrumental version of the title track. He has already released the three music videos for the three songs in his debut album which are: Break Down, Please, and Kiss Kiss. These three songs have been performed live as well. MANILA, Philippines – Overwhelmed by the immense support of Filipino fans, hallyu singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong promised that he’ll try his best to include the Philippines in his Asia tour that will start in December.

Kim Hyun Joong revealed this and more during his press conference at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City last Aug. 25.

The popular star is in the Philippines to promote his first solo album, “Break Down”, released by PolyEast Records, and meet his Filipino fans through a “High Five Touch” event at the TriNoma Activity Center in Quezon City.

This is Kim Hyun Joong’s second visit to the Philippines. He was here last year to perform at a concert.

During the press conference, Kim Hyun Joong talked about his new album, successful career, his supportive fans and future plans.

He said he was overwhelmed by the show of support he got from his fans when he arrived in the country.

“I was shocked and amazed by the fans who greeted me at the airport and here [hotel),” he said.

At the TriNoma event, the first 500 fans who bought the album were given the chance to have a “high-five" with Kim Hyun Joong.

“Break Down” is one of the most important milestones in Kim Hyun Joong’s career since debuting in 2005.

He said he was involved in making the album.

“I was involved in all the processes that went through with the album: jacket, the lyrics, melody. With your love, this will be a great success,” he said.

The mini-album features the title track that's produced by Ken Lewis who has worked with Eminem, Kanye West, Usher and John Legend.

“All the songs in the album are great. [For me] 'Break Down' is the best,” he said.

He has also released music videos for “Break Down” and “Kiss Kiss.” Asked what is the most memorable music video for him in the album, he said, “I tried my best for all the music videos that I’ve made. I cannot say right away.”

But the “Kiss Kiss” music video seemed to have stuck in his mind as he joked that it was the lowest budget music video.

Kim Hyun Joong revealed that his second album will be released in October and he will hold a concert and Asia tour in December.

“In October, there will be second album coming out and in December, there’s a concert and Asia tour. I’m not sure yet [about the venues] but I will try to include the Philippines,” he said.

There is also a plan for a free concert for his fans but he’s not sure of the details.

Asked what would be her next goal after conquering singing, acting and modeling, Kim Hyun Joong said as of now, he is focusing on being a singer and actor.

He said he cannot choose his preference between singing and acting since he loves them both.

“Again, it’s very hard to pick. Both of them are my professions and I’m loving it,” he said.

He said that there are challenges on being a solo artist.

“There have been a lot of actions and moments while I was doing my job and I’m expecting more,” he said.

He added that singing and acting are the two things that make him happy.

“It’s all related to what I’m doing and what I love and that would be singing and acting,” he said.

He revealed despite the hard work he’s doing, his fans have kept him going.

“When I’m on the stage, I feel like I’m getting tired but every time I have contact with the fans, that’s the time I get recharged,” he said.

On musical influences, Kim Hyun Joong cited Korean musician Seo Taiji as one of those who have made an impact to his career.

“There are a lot of Korean musicians who helped me out and brought me to what I am now. One of them is Seo Taji, one of the famous Korean singers and a (musical) legend,” he said.

At the conclusion of the press conference, he thanked his Filipino fans.

“Thank you for all the love that you have showered me. I’ll try to include the Philippines in the Asia tour. I will try to bring better songs and better performances,” Kim Hyun Joong said.
