“The time when men have a simple skin routine is long gone,” said Korean “telenovela” and K-pop superstar Kim Hyun Joong, who was in town to represent The Face Shop.

On TV and in real life, Hyun Joong can make girls follow him around like besotted puppies. A simple smile thrown in their direction can induce sighs, giggles, and shrieks.

The Face Shop Asia Tour press conference last week in Palm Grove, Rockwell Club was like a scene from the Korean drama he stars in. The event was mostly attended by girls who looked confident in their high heels and smart dresses, all vying for a bit of his attention.

He was quick to answer when asked what kind of a woman he likes.

“A woman’s worth is not based on her looks. I look at her personality, and I want someone warm and funny who would keep me entertained,” he said in Korean when somebody asked what he likes in a girl.

Much was lost in translation. He would seem to answer questions longer, but his interpreter would only give a one-sentence translation in English. Yet, despite the language barrier, he came across as candid and witty.

Kim Hyun Joong started out as the leader of the boy group SS50, but he went mainstream (at least on our shores) when he played Yoon Ji Hoo in “Boys Over Flowers.” He played another high school heartthrob in “Playful Kiss.” Made to choose between singing and acting, he gave a sassy reply.

“It would be tough. It would be like choosing between your mom and dad,” he said. He earned applause for that, not for the words he spoke, but how he said it. His tone remained even, but his expression made it seem like it was the most incredulous question he had ever heard.

Better than being ugly
Hyun Joong said that he doesn’t mind being called pretty. He said it was better than being called ugly!

“I don’t mind recommending Face Shop products to all men, because the time when men have a simple skin routine is long gone,” he said.

He twiddled his thumbs at the start of the one-on-one interview with Inquirer. He looked this writer in the eye whenever he spoke, and never broke the contact. His skin looked smooth, but the lines of his eyebags were obvious up close.

He’s the first one to admit that he’s a workaholic and that he likes to be active. Relaxing, for him, is playing soccer or any other sports, and not lazing around. He said that he still likes to do his own grocery. He doesn’t mind the mob of girls that follows him around.



He didn’t even break a sweat in his coat despite the hot room temperature. For the nth time, he sported a new hairstyle.“I can’t keep track of all the hair products I use on my head,” he said. “I dye my hair a lot so I need to use a lot of treatment products.”



He loves Korean food, but the first thing he does when he gets to a new country is try out the local cuisine. He said, however, that the only thing he had tried in the Philippines was a variation of fried rice.“I bring my iPad with me when I go on a business trip,” he said.



Then, with a deadpan expression, he added, “On a leisure trip, I bring money.” The cheeky answer made this writer and his posse laugh. He looked around smiling, and in all seriousness, added, “But it’s true.”

“Mahal kita, Philippines! Mabuhay Philippines! See you again, soon!” And with that, Korean Superstar Kim Hyun Joong concluded his very successful visit to the country.

Kim Hyun Joong was in Manila for only about 48 hours, from August 25 to 27, to promote his “Breakdown Album,” which is being distributed locally by PolyEast Records, and to participate in a series of events for The Face Shop, the beauty shop chain that he endorses.

Although he only stayed for two days, the members of his official fan club, Henecia Philippines, got busy preparing almost a month before his arrival. I was a witness to how a group of dedicated fan-girls devoted their time, money, and effort in support of this Hallyu star with finely chiseled features and an eccentric and fun personality, never mind that he hardly speaks English.

According to Nadia Gaurano, president of the fan club, they became ecstatic upon hearing the news that he would be including the country in his Asia Tour. “As soon as we learned that he was coming, we got down to business. Since this is his first official visit as a solo artist, we wanted to make sure that everything would go well and that he would be happy with the results,” she said.

The Fan Club members, most of whom are professionals and students, listed the tasks at hand and assigned individuals and teams responsible for designing and printing Henecia Philippines T-shirts, coordinating with members, buying gifts for Hyun Joong and his staff at Keyeast, his management company, and renting a double-decker bus to transport fans to and from the different venues of his activities, among many others.
Auction
Two of the members, Lyn Esguerra and Grace Aldeguer, worked closely with The Face Shop to organize the auction of Hyun Joong’s sports shorts, proceeds of which went to the Abiertas House of Friendship, a non-profit organization that supports unwed mothers. Both Kim Hyun Joong and Henecia Philippines have supported the organization in the past. The two also helped organize the autograph-signing session at the Trinoma Activity Center.

Asked why she did it despite the hard work and sleepless nights, Aldeguer said it was the most she could do for the guy who has entertained her, and has indirectly, introduced her to a group of new friends who have since become like family to her. She also considered it an opportunity to be a part of an undertaking to help the underprivileged.

Kathy Delera, owner of Kathy’s Bench (kathysbench.blogspot.com), a blog site dedicated to the Korean actor and singer, got busy posting articles to promote the visit. She and a few others used their blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and almost all kinds of social media networks to let everyone know of Hyun Joong’s visit.

As if all these activities weren’t crazy enough, the group got an email from the production staff of “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” asking if they can cover their activities. They said they learned about Henecia Philippines after calling the Keyeast office in Korea. So, Kathy, together with twins Lyd and Liz Pedernal, ended up being interviewed on TV about their fascination for this man whose popularity as a solo artist skyrocketed after appearing as Jihoo in the hit series “Boys Over Flowers.”
Arrival day

On the day of Hyun Joong’s arrival, a big group of Henecians went to the airport as early as 9 am to welcome him. They were all dressed in white Fan Club shirts, and held big welcome banners and white and silver balloons. They also prepared a bouquet of flowers for him.

As with most airport arrival scenes, the scene was very fleeting, and before they knew it he was already being whisked away to his hotel. But a glimpse of the smiling superstar was enough to keep everyone’s energy up the whole day.

Next stop for Kathy and her small group was the PolyEast Press Conference at the Edsa Shangri-La hotel. He was at the press conference for less than 15 minutes, but it was enough to mesmerize all the fan girls and fan boys in the audience. Yes, he was flawlessly handsome, but what endeared him to both fans and nonfans the most was his attentiveness. One look and you could tell the guy was no diva.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group proceeded to the Trinoma Activity Center for the High-Five Touch Event. The Japanese and Koreans have been holding events like this for stars, with gazillions of fans. Fans are given the opportunity to give their idols hi-fives, a less taxing and time-consuming activity than signing autographs.
Numbing the eardrums
The events on the 27th started with the Fan Club officers serving as marshals when Hyun Joong visited the Mall of Asia branch of The Face Shop. It was a short 10-minute visit, but the screams of the fans upon seeing him up close were enough to numb one’s eardrums.

No doubt everyone went there to see Kim Hyun Joong. But the screams did not start only upon his arrival. They started as soon as his bodyguard arrived to check the venue. Few can refute that Mr. Jeong is the hottest bodyguard from the land of Kimchi. He stands about 6’3”, and his skin doesn’t have visible pores. He makes you wonder whether, just like his boss, he uses BB Cream too before he steps out in public. Hyun Joong’s fans have been photographing him and mentioning him in their fan accounts. He even has his own FB fan page!

KHJ spent the rest of the afternoon at the Face Shop Press Conference at Rockwell. During the event, proceeds of the auction amounting to P100,000 was handed over to Abiertas. The winning bidder was Patria Ragasa, a 74-year-old avid fan of Hyun Joong. Ben Chan, whose company owns the local franchise of The Face Shop, was so moved and inspired by Hyun Joong’s generosity that he decided to donate another P500,000 to the organization.

This made Grace and Lyn cry. Finally, all their efforts were rewarded by something concrete. The appreciation and gratitude extended by The Face Shop and Keyeast was just a big bonus. After the media event, he proceeded to the autograph signing event at the Trinoma. His fans were surprisingly well-behaved, while Hyun Joong was visibly in a good mood.

At the end of the second day, the fan club members were exhausted but happy. And despite all the hardships, they are already looking forward to Kim Hyun Joong’s much-anticipated concert tour starting in December. Hopefully, he’ll be back to do a concert here early next year.

As big a star and as popular as he is, this gorgeous hunk is a real angel himself for his very caring and guy next door nature! He was constantly looking out for us, the people working behind the scenes. He was constantly asking us in a very endearing tone - ”你们吃饱了吗?” while we were busy making sure he doesn’t go hungry. Awww. .. How sweet of him.

And for you fans out there! He didn’t forget about you special ones. He even took time off his busy schedule to autograph baseball sets meant as contest prizes. That’s really adorable of him to do so.

On September 28th, Key East Entertainment updated Kim Hyun Joong’s official homepage with pre-order and tracklist info on his 2nd mini-album, “Lucky“.

“Lucky” was co-produced by Steven Lee (who’s worked with Kim Hyun Joong on his first mini-album) and Taewan a.k.a. C-Luv. Kim Hyun Joong will be promoting “Lucky Guy” as his title track.

Pre-orders for the album begin on September 29th through major record stores like Synnara, Yes24, Hottracks, and Interpark. The album will officially drop online and in stores on October 11th.

Group JYJ (Jaejoong, Yoochun & Junsu) is conquering the online music charts, proving that their ever-growing fame knows no end.
According to Olleh Music, the major songs from JYJ’s new album, ‘In Heaven‘, has secured the #1, 2, and 3 spots on the social charts for the second week in a row.
Different from the other artists that released new albums around the same time, JYJ hasn’t performed any of their new songs on any music programs on television. Regardless, the album which is scheduled to be released as a physical copy on the 27th has already received 300,000 pre-orders and is already sold out on most major sites. The supply cannot meet the demands of endless orders that are coming in from China, Japan, and the rest of Asia. But the much sought-after boys are nowhere to be seen on television.
JYJ’s agency CJes Entertainment reported, “We haven’t received any calls to perform on any programs. We are keeping a close eye on the situation for now, seeing that their album has not been officially released.”
“In regards to JYJ’s performance regulations, KBS informed us last May that more than once, the court ruled in favor of JYJ being able to perform on stage and that it should be a non-issue.” They continued, “KBS guaranteed that once JYJ’s new album is officially released, they should be able to perform without a stitch. There is talk about outside factors possibly causing some problems, but we trust KBS and we want JYJ to be able to perform before their fans that have been waiting for them.”
JYJ’s main focus this year is not only to be able to perform on stage, but they also have plans to be the first Korean artist to perform in Spain, as well as perform for their fans in Germany and the rest of Europe, not to mention Japan and the rest of Asia. “They’re thinking of various ways for the boys to greet their fans.”
Interestingly enough, JYJ revealed their title track “Get out” through an LG advertisement and the rest of 2011 will be hectic for the boys as they are working on establishing a professional video-based community in order to better communicate with their fans all over the world. They even have plans to start a donation project to help the poor and neglected.

Kim Hyunjoong is set to release his second album and hold a large scale tour across Asia. Despiteprevious announcements from his agency about these plans, Keyeast Agency confirms the progress on Kim Hyunjoong's upcoming release.

On recent statement, they revealed that, "Work on his second album has been completed about halfway. It is going to be released in October and there will be a fan meeting as well as a concert in Japan and other Asian countries. He should be very busy traveling around Asia until December".

The agency also shared plans about his acting career by saying, "Kim Hyunjoong is getting closer to the fans by being active as a singer. He shows greed in his album so we will concentrate on Asia this year. He should return as an actor next year".

As of the moment, Kim Hyunjoong has been visiting China and Japan for various events such as concerts and other promotions. He recently caught the attention of media reporters last September 19, despite only being in Hong Kong for transit. Kim Hyunjoong was relatively surprised by the turn out as his every move was reported in live time in China. Various media reporters took interest in his airport fashion and made news about his visit.

It’s just been revealed that tickets for Kim Hyun Joong‘s Japan tour have sold out completely!

The tickets went on sale on September 20th through Kim Hyun Joong’s Japanese mobile site. Reportedly, the seats sold out almost immediately after they were released for purchase.

Approximately 90,000 fans rushed to the site to grab a ticket; those who weren’t able to purchase one flooded Kim Hyun Joong’s Japanese agency with phone calls requesting more concert dates. As a result, the agency is currently considering adding extra concert dates to the tour, which is already scheduled to hit seven cities across Japan.

The tour will see Kim Hyun Joong performing songs from his first mini-album, ‘Breakdown‘. Additionally, fans will also get to hear songs from his upcoming second mini-album, scheduled to hit stores sometime in the middle of October.

It’s also been revealed that the idol will participate in planning details for this special tour, raising the hype level of this exciting event. Stay tuned for more on Kim Hyun Joong’s Japan tour!

The 'Hanryu Star' Kim HyunJoong's Japan Nationwide Concert that will be kicking off this November, are considering to add another performance to the tour.

The ticket sales for the Kim HyunJoong's Japan Nationwide Concert Tour have been opened through Kim HyunJoong's Japanese Mobile Site on 20th of September. Once the ticket sales was opened, an approximate 90,000 fans have gathered in the ticket purchasing site, once again proving Kim HyunJoong's amazing level of popularity.

Receiving such a warm reactions from the fans, there is a consideration to add another additional performnce into the tour. According to Kim HyunJoong's Japanese agency DA, 'Some of the fans weren't able to get the tickets, our telephone service line was flooded with the calls. We are considering to plan additional performances in another 7 cities.'
To thanks the fans for their support, Kim HyunJoong is working hard to prepare for his Japan Tour's performances. His agency stated, ' Kim HyunJoong are directly planning for the programmes (in the concert tour). Although the second mini album's released date have not been confirmed, fans can expect a lot for it.'
